‘Amanecer Rosada’
Tempranillo, Santa Ynez Valley, California
A zero-zero rosé that is just as surprising as it is fantastical. Oakland native and 3rd generation winemaker, Chenoa Ashton-Lewis, along with cinematographer, Will Basanta, began their zero-zero wine project ‘Ashanta’ in 2019 after getting bit hard by our friend ‘the wine bug’. At 1,400 ft. in elevation, the Claus Vineyard is nestled along the westside of the Mendocino National forest, the soil here classified by alluvium soils from 2.5 million years ago! Handpicked, direct pressed whole cluster into stainless for two weeks to mingle, then aged in french neutral oak for seven months building itself from the inside out. Papaya swaddled by rose petals, white raspberry creamsicle, an icing sugar cool breeze, sour-sop & a baseline of gravel and cement keeps everything rooted. Pour alongside Toronto’s best chicken chow mein.
