'Damejeanne'
Marquette, Vermont, USA
A mineral, ferociously berried hybrid red, giving Alsatian pinot noir vibes! Join us in welcoming to the GW family, one of the most intriguing projects in all of North America, La Garagista! Owner and winemaker Deirdre Heekin oversees her thriving, vine-wound kingdom with an affinity for hybrid grapes, thriving ecosystems & a thirst for knowledge. FUN FACT! Like many great inventions, today's demi-john, originally called ‘Lady Jane’, or ’Dame-Jeanne’, was created by accident. In 1347, when Queen Joanna of Naples was exiled to Avignon, she one morning startled her host (an artisan glassmaker) into producing the first of these gorgeously bulbous, 10 litre vessels! Garagista’s ‘damejeanne’ is made of the spiced, darkly-berried hybrid marquette, harvested from two vineyards hidden in the hills and valleys of Vermont, fermented on skins, and blended together after a year in glass demijohns. Red liquorice, violet, ironstone, tart strawberries that sit centre stage, salt & parsnips. Enjoy with an herbed and roasted potato dish of any kind.
