2020 Montepulciano Branella

Montepulciano, Abruzzo, Italy

A spiced, mineral and floral RARE JEWEL that captures its region in a whole new light. Located in the northern province of Teramo, Emidio Pepe has been making some of the world’s most coveted wine since the end of the 19th century, boasting organic and biodynamic farming practices, hand-harvesting, no fining/filtering & no added sulphur. FUN FACT! As decided by fifth generation winemaker Chiara de Iulis Pepe, 2020 is the first time both old vine montepulciano vineyards were separately as ‘Casa Pepe’ and ‘Branella’, instead of one Montepulciano d'Abruzzo from old vines! Sourced from the two hectare Branella vineyard that was planted in 1966 on blue clay marl and sandy soils, and purchased by the family in 1981. Silken handkerchief, ashen stones, incense packet, dried roses, flowering catmint, chalk dust, woody spice & cranberry bitters that bring a pucker and purse. An excellent choice to tuck away for a celebratory spring day, or pour alongside your recent lottery ticket winnings.
