'Le Geai'
Gewurztraminer, Alsace, France
A unendingly charming and elegantly aromatic gew for ALL. Biodynamic and zero-zero hero Jean-François Ginglinger’s six hectares sit in Pfaffenheim, where JF’s family has been making wine since 1610! The estate now covers six hectares, with one third of its vineyards concentrated in two Grand Cru certified plots, dubbed Steinert and Zinnkoepfle. Picked at optimum ripeness and direct pressed for purity of expression, ‘Le Geai’ is then aged for a year in large Alsatian barrels to spin itself into gold. Nectarous kumquat, mandarin orange crate, jasmine vines, citric VA (volatile acidity) & a crowding chalky-ness. Drink while reading Robin Wall Kimmerer’s newest release, The Serviceberry.
