‘Medový Muškátek’
Muscat, Muscat-based Hybrids & Honey, Moravia, Czech Republic
A truly singular, aromatic and divinely accented Czech orange. Richard Stávek has been a leader in natural winemaking and environment conscious agriculture since the mid-90s. He and his wife Stanislava's 15 hectares of land in South Moravia are home to vineyards, and a plethora of fruits, nuts, vegetables and animals that all play their part in the biodiversity symphony they’ve cultivated. FUN FACT! In consideration of the area’s warming climate and decreased precipitation, Rich is increasing the number of new vines on his land, aka vine density, to encourage competition between them, causing the roots to grow deeper into the ground in search of water and nutrients – stabilizing and strengthening them for the continually changing climate! Plucked from their clay and loess soils, whole bunches of grapes are crushed with feets, fermented of skins with 50 grams of their own honey added per litre of wine. The lees are stirred consistently throughout 10 months of aging which really locks in aromatics, tactility and solidifies ‘Medový Muškátek’ as a shiny new entity. Lotuses opening in the morning, linden honey, dried yellow apricots, wild musky marsh herbaceousness, red peppercorn fruit, sucking on a stone, juniper, thick papaya & white tea. Enjoy with tête a cochon.
