Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir, Nahe, Germany
A supple, spirited, zero-zero pinot from a young and exciting winemaker to watch! Resting between Rheinhessen and the Mosel, the Pieroth family have been cultivating vineyards in Nahe since 1781, working to translate the volcanic, limestone and slate-rich soils through the region’s famous grapes and into our lucky mouths. Growing in its reputation as a low-intervention HUB, the steep slopes and cool climate Nahe provides is an ideal environment for sustainable viticulture, and seeing this potential, current winemaker Christine is moving the estate into biodynamic farming. FUN FACT! Christine’s labels show local flora that she collected in or around her vineyard sites, handprinted on fabric and made into labels! The pristine pinot is handpicked, partly de-stemmed and skin-fermented for four weeks capturing texture and aromatics, before aging in rounding old oak for a year. Ripe and wafting strawberries meets sour raspberries, soft, ancient forest floor tannins, purple plums wrapped in violets & an ashy smokiness prevails. Pour alongside Jón Kalman Stefánsson’s Heaven and Hell.
