A vegetal, tart and mighty zero-zero Hungarian red from GWI’s newest producer! After purchasing Vaskapu Kastély (Iron Gate Castle) in the area of Mohács, wife and husband Ibolya and Géza Galán got to work, taking this 2.5 hectare plot into full biodynamics, complete with no-tilling, and zero intervention in the cellar. This kékfrankos, aka blaufränkish, is sourced from the Bátaszék vineyard in the neighbouring appellation of Szekszárd, which has been farmed organically since its planting in the 1990s. A mix of whole cluster pressing and semi-carbonic maceration, whole berries are fermented in the direct pressed juice – imagine a bowl of cereal, but with wine! FUN FACT! Only about 900 bottles were made, ketch yours while you kan! Spice, spice baby, sour cherries, aronia berry cheesecake, vegetal undergrowth that leads you into the belly of the beast with wispy smoke, meaty might & a silken tofu kinda molding to the contours of your mouth type tannins.
